Midwestern State's Marcus Mathis and Michael Mejia were named to the Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Team Friday afternoon when the league announced its annual awards.

Mathis, a sophomore education major from Rockwall, led the Mustangs in rushing with 625 yards on 112 carries for a 5.6 yards-per-carry average including five touchdown runs.

Mathis became the 12th rusher in MSU's modern football era to rush for 1,000 yards this season and currently rates 10th on the program's all-time rushing list with 1,313 yards.

Mejia, a sophomore biology major from Mesquite, appeared in eight games this season for the Mustangs. He was in on seven tackles, including a sack against Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 1.

MSU juniors Lance Calloway and Andy Tanner were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The all-academic team is sel ected by the league's sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average and must be a sophomore in eligibility.

All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the all-academic team are then named to the commissioner's honor roll.
