Midwestern State moved ahead four spots to No. 17 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association NCAA Division II Poll released Tuesday morning.

The Mustangs, who improved to 4-0 for the third-straight season with a 17-3 win over Lone Star Conference foe Angelo State last weekend, battle No. 5 West Texas A&M Saturday at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

This is the 27th consecutive voting period in which MSU received votes dating back to the 2006 season.

But the Mustangs have plenty of company from the Lone Star Conference and other members of NCAA Division II's Super Region No. 4 in the poll.

In fact, the LSC and Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association each boast four currently ranked teams.

The LSC is represented by No. 4 Abilene Christian, which is receiving two first-pla ce votes, No. 5 West Texas A&M, No. 13 Tarleton State and No. 17 Midwestern State.

The MIAA has Pittsburg State (Kan.) at No. 6, Northwest Missouri State at No. 7, Nebraska-Omaha at No. 16 and Central Missouri at No. 22.

Nebraska-Omaha slipped 11 spots after falling to Northwest Missouri 42-0 last week at home, while Central Missouri only fell three spaces after losing to Pittsburg State 49-28 in Pittsburg.

Northwest Missouri and Pittsburg State meet Saturday in the seventh annual Fall Classic at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference is represented by Central Washington, who slipped three spots to No. 12 after falling 38-35 to FCS Montana, while Western Oregon is receiving votes.
