The life of Roger Henish is no fairy tale. Like some people in the world, Roger grew up not knowing who is mother or father were.. He was placed up for adoption six times, but never found a home, so he was sent to a place called boys town. "That's were I ended up at cause I felt that nobody wanted me," says Henish.
As he got older life suddenly became interesting for him, he found himself working in Hollywood. Roger was one of sixteen guys chosen to be a dancer in the 1957 hit movie "Jailhouse Rock". That's where Elvis Presley himself came up with the nickname, Rockin' Roger. "Elvis didn't know how to dance. We had to teach him how to dance. He knew how to move his hips and things but he was a wallflower at his high school prom," Henish says.
That exciting movie star life style quickly came to a halt, Roger became an alcoholic. Instead of dancing, Roger became a well known cat burglar. His sudden change in career eventually led him to 13 years in a Nebraska penitentiary "This is were I got it together, that was my cell. No television no telephone, just a bunk, a commode and a steel table and that's were I had to start taking a good look at myself," says Henish.
Released from jail roger held numerous jobs as he turned his life around. He now regularly speaks to schools, civic groups and even at the prison. Roger says that with new drugs like meth and cheese popping up through out the nation , he felt the need to share his life story with children to keep them from falling the same path.
" I'm covering all the phases of how to get involved in young people's lives and I'll probably do it till the day I die," says Henish.
For Roger, he has no regrets of his wild past because without it, he says he could never consider himself an example.
