Bonnie L. Markmann Moffatt Marley

Bonnie L. Markmann Moffatt Marley passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 in Wichita Falls, TX from complications of pneumonia.  A celebration of her life will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute, KS on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend David McCoy.

Bonnie was born January 30, 1925, to Louis M. and Sylvia O. “Opal” Toomey Markmann in Chanute, KS.  She attended Chanute schools graduating High School May, 1943.  She worked at Chanute’s electric power plant her junior year of high school, transferring to the City Clerk’s office one year later.  She was promoted to the position of City Clerk in 1966, overseeing the financial transactions of the city until resigning in 1973.

She married Wilbur “Red” “Bill” K. Moffatt of Chanute, in Wichita, KS May 12, 1947.  The resided in Chanute except for a brief period, 1950 through spring of 1953, when they lived in Tucson, AZ.  They had one son and one daughter.  They enjoyed fellowship through their church and had great fun on legendary camping trips which often included several families.  Bill passed away November 13, 1969.

August 5, 1973, she married Merton R. Marley of Santa Fe, NM.  Merton had three sons and Bonnie embraced each of the five children as her own, taking great pride in their accomplishments.   Over the years they lived in Santa Fe, Colorado Springs, CO, Whitehall, MD, and retiring to Wichita Falls, TX in 1997.  She loved traveling with him on his frequent business trips throughout the United States, and occasionally to Canada and Europe.  Merton preceded her in death June 28, 2009.

Mrs. Marley is also preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Opal Markmann; and brother, Merle D. Markmann. 

Bonnie is survived by her brother, Robert E. Markmann and wife Jean of Tucson, AZ; sister, Jeannine Sova and her husband, Leonard of Topeka, KS; daughter, Stephanie Bohling and her husband, Carter W. of Wichita Falls, TX; sons, W. Keith Moffatt and his wife Kathryn of Freeport, IL, Merton D. Marley of Lewisville, KY, Walter B. Marley and his wife, Debbie of Richmond, VA, Dennis E. Marley of Randallstown, MD; five granddaughters, one grandson, two great-granddaughters, and three great-grandsons.
