Congress Expected to Extend Jobless Benefits
Americans running out of jobless benefits are about to get some much needed relief. Congress is expected to give final passage to a bill that would keep checks coming for awhile longer. The Senate voted unanimously last night on a bill that would give and extra 14 weeks of unemployment aid to people out of work. Every day, 7,000 people lose their jobless benefits. Maureen Burns had been out of work for more than a year and was about to become one of them. "You know your stomach starts to turn when you go into the supermarket and you really can't afford to buy much," Burns said. Maureen now has a temp job, but knows she will still have to find something else to get by. We'll get a better idea of how many people are in situations like Maureen's this week. Tomorrow, the national unemployment rate comes out. That figure is expected to inch closer to ten percent, possibly reaching a fresh 26 year high. Most ViewedMore Good Stuff |
