DALLAS (AP) - Federal agents have now arrested more than 300 people as part of an identity theft investigation at Pilgrim's Pride plants in five states, and they're still seeking more fugitives. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say agents had taken into custody 311 people by Thursday. Of those, 91 face criminal charges alleging false use of a Social Security number and document fraud. The rest face charges of immigration violations and are being processed for deportation. The arrests were part of a simultaneous effort on Wednesday at Pilgrim's Pride plants in Mount Pleasant, Texas; Live Oak, Fla.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Batesville, Ark. and Moorefiled, W.Va. The workers arrested are from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Colombia. Fifty-eight of the people arrested in the five states were released for humanitarian reasons, which include medical conditions or sole caregivers.
