Shooting Suspects Fire At Police

An early morning downtown shooting ends with shots being exchanged between Wichita Falls Police and two young suspects.

Around 2 early Sunday morning, police were called out to 14th and Lamar for gunshot wounds. When officers arrived, they found gunshot victims 17 year old Joel Gutierrez and 20 year old Lorenzo Mendoza and 20 year old Christian Gallegos. All three were rushed to United Regional.

 After witnesses gave a description of the suspect vehicle, the Wichita Falls Police Department Gang Task Force spotted the truck leaving the scene. That's when a brief chase began.

One of the suspects fired a gun at the unit, striking the front of the vehicle. The task force returned fire, hitting the rear of the suspect vehicle.

That's when 20 year old Jose Olvera and 19 year old Juan Dominguez surrendered at the intersection of 10th and Polk.

The County's Sheriff's Office, FBI, Texas Department Of Public Safety, and the Wichita Falls Fire Department all assisted in the investigation.

Police believe the suspects tossed the gun from their vehicle during the chase. Many streets were blocked off, including a majority of Monroe street as they searched for the weapon.

Police are saying the incident is possibly gang related.

Thankfully, no officers were injured. 

Newschannel Six called the hospital but they are not releasing the current conditions of the victims.

The two suspects were arrested on three counts of aggravated assault, however detectives are considering additional charges.
