For 31 years he's served Wichita County, and now he's announcing his resignation. In an announcement on Nov. 20 Judge Tom Bacus says he will retire at the end of his term, which is December of 2010.

Judge Tom Bacus was first elected in 1979, before being elected to serve in the position he has held since 1985. A judge of the county court at law, he says even after retirement his decades of experience will be put to use.

Judge Tom Bacus said, "I'm making this announcement now so that attorney's in our community that are interested in running for the office will have an opportunity to really seriously think about it and prepare if they want to become a candidate for the County Court of Law No. 2."

Bacus also says he will not be leaving Wichita County and will be offering up his services to the county if regular judges have conflicts or are absent.
