Texas added 41,700 jobs in October. That number proved a small boost to the Wichita Falls community.

The Wichita Falls unemployment rate dropped to 7.8%, a slight improvement from 7.9% in September. Abilene also saw small growth. The unemployment rate there is at 6.1%, an increase from September's 6.3%.

Even though Texas added jobs, the unemployment rate edged up to  8.3 percent from 8.2 percent. Most of the state's gains were in education, health care and government.

The national unemployment rate jumped to 10.2 percent in October, the highest in 26 years, from 9.8 percent in September.
