Health Department: Out of Seasonal Flu Vaccines

 The swine flu is still hitting hard in Texoma and it's almost time for the seasonal flu to make its rounds. The threat of two flu strains striking at once is stirring fear in some Texomans.  

The Wichita Falls Wichita County Health Department is out of seasonal flu vaccine and there's still no word on when a public vaccination clinic for H1N1 will be set up now that it's almost time for seasonal flu to strike. Some are fearing the combined flu outbreak.

Lou Franklin, Director of the Health Department says more seasonal flu vaccine is on the way but next year this process might not be as difficult. "What they have said is if H1N1 had been discovered just a month earlier that what it was this past year was that it would have been included in the seasonal vaccine this year. So it's entirely possible that next year we would have one vaccine and that it would have this as one of its three constituents that's in the vaccine."

Each year health officials choose three viruses to include in the seasonal flu vaccine. Franklin says she hopes the seasonal vaccine will protect against H1N1 next year.
