A String of Car Thefts Leave Duncan PD Searching for Culprits

DUNCAN, OK--Detectives with the Duncan Police Department are investigating a string of car thefts. Officers say several vehicles have been stolen in recent weeks.

Officials report that nine cars have been stolen in Duncan this month. Duncan police say some arrests have been made, and they have several more suspects in sight. The police department has several leads on suspects for a recent rash of car thefts.

Detective John Byers of the Duncan Police Department said, "Over the past month we've had approximately 9 vehicles stolen. They have all been stolen from Duncan city limits. Most have been unlocked with keys in them or in purses or ashtrays or something like."

Two suspects were arrested in Elmore City, Oklahoma, and more arrests are pending. Investigators report that many of the cars had the keys in them, and that the number of thefts is unusual. Officials said that the poor economy and high unemployment rate may be a factor in these crimes.

"Asking people to lock their cars, roll up the windows. We know it's been a little cooler in the evenings but still just remember times are hard and people and trying to make a quick a dollar. They're pawning it when they can and we just remind everybody to secure their possessions," Detective Byers said.

Detectives in Duncan said that while they do have more suspects in mind, they"re still investigating. If you have any information please call Duncan Police at 580-255-2112.
