500 Dogs Seized from Puppy Mill

It's estimated more than 500 dogs have been seized from a property in Montague county.

Sheriff Paul Cunninham began investigating the area when he took office in January. He says he had been receiving reports of a self-breeding outfit.

A warrant was signed and law enforcement immediately headed out to the place which is between the cities of Montague and Bowie.

KAUZ's Dan Garcia also rushed to the scene and tells us there were dogs and puppies all over the place. The owners were there at the time, but so far they have not been charged with any crimes pending a full investigation.

A court hearing is set for July 17th to determine where the animals will go.

i agree with tommie kirksmith's comments above. and i would like to point out that about 3 years ago, they had posted all over town that they had 65 dogs 'lost or stolen' at various gas stations, etc. the one they posted at the walmart fina i told them those dogs weren't lost or stolen - those dogs were rescued & i told them what a puppy mill was. they immediately took down the flyer. anywhere i went that had a flyer i told them about it. that's when they changed their "add" in the shopper.

And Moses, you need to shut your mouth. You don’t know what you are talking about. Fortunately, not all people are cruel to animals. These animals have been severely abused and the authorities did what they needed to do to save their lives. Hopefully, it’s not too late to save them.

And yes Carolline, your grandmother was running a puppy mill. If you don’t believe she was, then you don’t ever need to have a dog, cat or any type of pet. Not that you or your family sees animals as pets. To all of you, their just $$$$$. You are very sick people.

I am horrified to hear about all of these poor, defenseless animals. I use to breed dogs (on a very small scale), and mine never left my property without being vaccinated and wormed. I also gave a guarantee with my dogs. If you are going to breed, breed responsibly. And yes, not all of puppies of a litter will get parvo.

MOSES- UR AN IDIOT!!! Im a vet tech and i have seen litters of pups get parvo... 8 out of ten get it but 2 don't. Can they get it? Yes' but it doesn't mean they will!! Educate..Educate..Educate..Go back to school, learn something!

500 dogs!!! I have 9 and there aren't enough hours to properly care for them and last year I spent almost as much money on the vet as I did on my mortgage. There is NO WAY they can vet, feed and care for this many dogs without a fulltime staff and a lot of money. I hope they throw the book at them and find good homes for the dogs.

Caroline, I hate to tell you but your grandmoter is equal to the devil. You are in great need for some education if you think this type of treatment (abuse) is normal. The Sherriff has the authority by the People who elected him to seize animals that are being abused, you are really thinking like a Heddins calling the animals property = $$$$$

MOSES-How can you say I poisoned my pet and that I am a liar? You must be related to the Heddins to even think like that! You evidently don't care ANYTHING about animals because your focus is not on their injustice, but to be hurtful to people who love their pets and sustained pain at their loss.We went through torture for a 2 week incubation period with the puppy that survived and he still had worms and an intestinal bacteria! WOW! Caroline must be getting money out of this- typical greedy mentality. And not sure what planet Moses is on. He needs "help" too. On the closing of the mill-farm-death camp - whatever you want to label it - THANK HEAVENS it is closed. No creature should have to suffer like this. But maybe the people - and I use that term loosely - that perpetuate or participate in any manner of running these places should be sentenced to the same fate they dissed out to the dogs. LOCKED UP & STARVED.

If any of the puppies were not correctly vaccinated then yes..one could get parvo and another not.. moses.. please! Anyone who knows anything about dogs or puppies knows that! This woman did a lot of injustice to a lot of families and animals. I reported her 4 years ago, which did no good.. thank goodness.. it will finally end.

I bought a bichon there 4 years ago, and felt I was rescuing the little guy. He had wire marks imbedded in his feet. She sent me home with a handful of antibotics.. come to find out, he had kennel cough.. bad! I was SHOCKED after being inside the mill. It was crazy! I personally see nothing wrong with responsibliy breeding animals... this was NOT responsible. When I asked her to see the parents of Bodie, the bichon, she stated it was her grand daughters dog and wasn't on the premises.

I have been praying for this. GOD BLESS all who were involved in this raid and to the caring folks who took the time to call on bahalf of these babies. This went on way too long and let it serve as a warning to the other breeders. It is cruel, wrong and inhumane. Millions of wonderful animals are put to death each year because of people like you. Their blood is on your hands. Lastly, if you want a pet, PLEASE PLEASE visit your local shelter. DO NOT support these mills.

When calling to inform the facility about the intestinal parasites, found out the sheriff was already there. We are glad we have our two dogs and that we were financially capable of taking care of them early on with the problems they had, but we shouldn't have had to. No one should. When buying a dog, you pay good money and have every right to expect a healthy animal in return. I'm glad the authorities have the situation in hand. We will go a different route if we ever buy another dog.

Bought a dog from here 4 years ago, conditions weren't as bad then as they are now. Our dog had the worst case of kennel cough a specialist had ever come across - normal medicine for condition would not work. She cost us an extra $3k to get well. She's been worth every penny but she shouldn't have had to endure nor should we have had to pay. We a new puppy last week - conditions at facility much worse. Took her to vet, two different intestinal parasites, ring worm, and yeast infection in ears!!

Caroline you are an ignorant, uneducated, animal abusing degenerate. If you think that someone torturing almost 500 dogs isn't going to serve jail time then you need to wake up. Your horrible grandmother is going to get torn apart by the IRS and animal rights agencies for the rest of her life. Since you grew up there you probably have no idea how to treat an animal and don't deserve to have one either.

Caroline, yes dogs WERE HURT!! I saw them with my own eyes. I saw dogs laying there starved with pups sucking on them! Dogs in cages that had no water in them. Dogs in cages so small they could hardly move! Sick dogs in cages! THAT IS HURTING DOGS, Caroline!!

Thank God these people are caught, and I hope she and her family who supported her get plenty of jail time. Chris and I bought a dog from her ONCE, took it to the vet, and it had Parvo. Mrs Heddins and her son were so hateful and swore the dog was not sick. Thank you Paul Cunningham and HSNT !! God Bless you all!

I am glad they got them. There are way to many puppy mills, also the back yard breeding!! puppy mills are NOT a healthy place for animals. they get no care, and they are just in it for the money. Who really can afford to take 500 puppys to the vet for shots, and deworming. I work at a animal rescue and we are always in need of good homes. we get all sizes in. And they are so thrilled and overwhelmed to see a hopefully new mommy and daddy that will love them and care for them. specialy the kids.

Caroline here is the definition of what a puppy mill is...A puppy mill, sometimes known as a puppy farm , is a large-scale commercial dog breeding facility that operates under substandard conditions regarding the well-being of dogs in their care.. Similar types of operations exist for other animals commonly kept as pets or used as feed for other animals. SO...If the shoe fits..... I have NEVER had such a horrible experience as with your grandmother!
