Rain forecast in Texas on Independence Day
Undated (AP) - Rain could dampen Fourth of July festivities in Texas — but it may be a welcome relief with highs near 100 forecast throughout the state. In North Texas, skies were expected to be mostly sunny with highs near 101 and overnight lows in the upper 70s, according to the National Weather Service. Rain was possible at night with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms predicted mainly after 1 a.m. Rain was highly likely in the Panhandle where a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms was possible around Amarillo. Highs in the upper 80s and overnight lows in the mid-60s were expected. In Central Texas, highs near 101 and overnight lows in the upper 70s were forecast. Heat index values as high as 104 were also expected with a 10 percent chance of rain possible around Austin. The Gulf Coast had an isolated chance of showers throughout the day. Forecasters gave a 20 percent chance for showers around Houston with highs near 100 and overnight lows near 80.
