Recently, Todd Staples, Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner, came to Wichita Falls to set up a program that will be beneficial to seniors. The program will provide vouchers for seniors to get fresh vegetables and fruit at local farmers' markets. Staples said he read about other states doing this and thought it would work well in Texas.

"This is the first of its kind in the great state of Texas and it sends the right kind of message of who we are,"Staples said.

The program will help promote Texas's vibrant agriculture industry as well as assist in providing for the needs of our senior population. To obtain vouchers, seniors just have to visit one of our local food pantries. Applicants must be at least 60 years of age and be at a certain poverty income level. They must reside within the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank's service area.
