Falls Flyover Fatal Accident

A tragic accident has stopped work on the Falls Flyover for the day.

Police say 52 year old Manuel Ramirez was killed last night on the Falls Flyover construction site. The man was from Dallas, but working here with the HB Zachry Construction company from San Antonio. The company says the worker has been with them for a long time.

Zachry Construction is the prime contractor for the Falls Flyover Project.

TX Dot sends its prayers and condolences to the Ramirez family and Construction Company, and says loosing Ramirez is a devastating loss for the company.

Police say just before 9:15 last night, Ramirez and other workers were laying down mats for the crane to move along.  When the crane driver thought all was clear he moved, and didn't realize Ramirez was near the wheels.

 Ramirez died at the scene, but police say no foul play was involved.

The Falls Flyover broke ground in 2005, and TX Dot says this is the first serious accident out there and certainly the first fatality.
