A Muskogee Oklahoma High School Student is undergoing tests after collapsing during a game last night. Officials say he was holding his chest when we fell. That's something we too often hear about, but usually the story ends in death. Which has hundreds of parents who have lost children to Sudden Cardiac Arrest speaking out.

Parent Heart Watch, a Non-Profit Organization, is stepping up the word on how to protect your kids. It's being done through the message, "A Heartbeat Away."  A message that's even being heard at local schools. Sudden Cardiac Arrest or SCA claims a life every 2 minutes, and thousands are children.

"It's very critical that CPR be initiated quickly and the use of an AED." said Health Care Coordinator Debi Horn. That's why Texas schools, including the Wichita Falls Independent School District, are prepared, with both the knowledge of CPR and Automated External Defibrillator's or AED's.

WFISD Health Care Coordinator Debi Horn says starting this year, one defibrillator is in place at each campus.  It's usually kept around areas used for sporting events and practices.

WFISD is also set to place another AED at all high schools. Anytime they have a game or practice they will take it with them, so if there is a problem with an athlete they've got it.

Debi Horn says the district has never had to use the AED, and she hopes they never will. No matter what district your child attends, Horn says all Texas Campuses should have an AED on site, because it is mandated by the state.

Officials say it's also a good idea to talk to your doctor about routine Cardiac Screenings for your child.
