Up and down temperatures can be a hastle when making plans, but they're also affecting Texoma's well-being.

Experts say drastic changes in temperatures can make a person more susceptible to illness and allergies.

"The temperature changes. It takes a while for your body to adapt to whatever environment. And if it's changing rapidly you have trouble keeping up with it." said Allergist Mac Fitzsimmons.

During this time of the year strong winds from the south carry allergens known as cedar pollen which can have flu-like symptoms. Peoples homes are also a big allergy culprit.

"House dust. The more you stay inside, the more you're exposed to it. Also, house dust is not dirt, house dust is actually lint from your clothing, stuffing from the furniture, fuzz off the carpets, so it's more heavy clothing, heavy fluffy blankets the more we're shaking inside the house, the more we contribute to the house dust. so, that can set off symptoms." said Fitzsimmons.

Experts say to dust regularly, especially during the winter when residents tend to spend more time indoors.

Airing out the house is also a good idea, but be mindful of dry air because doctors say it can also lead to respiratory problems.

"I'm a very big fan of people using humidifiers in homes, especially anytime the humidity gets low enough that you can walk across the carpet and shock yourself on the doorknob. You really need a humidifier that day." said Fitzsimmons.

Doctors say allergies are not something to blow off. At least thirty-nine million americans suffer from nasal allergies leading to missed work and school.
