If you've ever made the new year's resolution to lose weight and get in shape you're not alone. But as Lindsey Rogers reports, several people are finding a new way to stick to the resolution this year.

A recent survey by nutritionist and dieticians shows less people are signing up for gym memberships than in previous years and more are instead, turning to fitness and healthy cook books.

The new year generally brings on a fresh set of resolutions and many are gearing up to shed those extra holiday pounds. But instead of hitting the gym, this year, many are hitting the books. Wichita Falls Hastings employees say the trend for health and fitness books are the same every year.

"More around the new year time for the resolutions," said Hastings employee Lauren Cole.

But Cole is finding this to be especially true as we kick off 2009. She says Hastings has had a steady increase in health book sales for the past couple months.

"I think it has picked up just because of the economy. Even though books are higher priced I think that's better than going to the gym and things like that," Cold said. 

Cole says the best sellers are Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet" and Bob Green's "The Best Life Diet."  But cook and diet books aren't the only hot items.

"We have fitness videos and we have fitness kits and customers really like those as well," Cole said.

Cole says in the last week many are using their christmas gift cards to purchase the pump up videos and slim down literature.
