In you ask we investigate, a Knox County man is fighting to get some of his property cleaned up, and we're not talking about trash. Dan Garcia reports it involves oil seeped from old pipes into the ground.

Robert Crowell owns this ranch east of Knox City. It looks tranquil enough, but underneath lies what he calls a huge problem.

Crowell said, "Kinder Morgan had some pipelines that were running through this area, they've apparently leaked for many years." What's leaking is oil from these old pipes that were run underground. It shows in these darker lines on the walls of this gigantic hole. The hole is part of one clean-up attempt by the oil company that allegedly caused the problem.

Crowell said, "We've tested it. This soil and it's so saturated, so contaminated. The railroad commission has required them to clean it up to a small limit and they've claimed they're cleaning it up to the railroad commission standards."

Crowell said there is another ticking bomb on his property, this old, dismantled refinery. This is where the underground pipelines originated. Signs posted near the refinery show potential hazards exist.

Crowell said, "Elizabeth Jones and the railroad commission have allowed them to leave these zones, the contamination right on the water table." Not to mention that it's very close to this leg of the Brazos River.

I contacted the Texas Railroad Commission today and they are checking the status of the cleanup. They promised to get back to me and their report will be something Robert Crowell will be very interested in hearing about.
