The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank has a big goal for the "Big Scoop Food Drive" and they need your help.
Three-hundred-thousand pounds of food. That's the goal of the "Big Scoop Food Drive." In an effort to stamp out hunger. The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank is collecting non-perishable food items for the drive on the 19th.
"Why don't we shoot for that 300,000 pounds to make that 2 million goal."
It may seem like a lofty goal but the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank says every year it hands out 1.7-million pounds of food and this year.. they want to hit the 2-million mark. So volunteers and employees are asking for help -- In 2 weeks the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank hopes to have this warehouse packed with non-perishable food items.
"This time we pretty much need everything from green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, rice, pinto beans," said Michelle Schuster.
An assembly line on the 19th will move the packaged food quickly. With only eight hours volunteers will have their work cut out for them. But, as Michelle says, it's all worth it.
"I've been with the Food Bank for 14 years. It's been a blessing to be able to do what we do and to help the ones that are in need. It's very heart warming, especially during the holiday's to those extras there you're able to help," said Schuster.
To help the food bank reach it's goal you can drop off non-perishable food items to 1230 Midwestern Parkway. The Big Scoop Food Drive will be taking items from 9 AM to 5 PM on September 19th. If you can't make it to the food bank you can drop off food at any United Grocery Store or at the Walmart on Southwest Parkway.
