New Drug Task Force Proposed

Weather KAUZ

Wichita County officials want to keep drugs out of the area. In September, the North Texas Drug Task Force was disbanded. Now officials are trying to create a new task force. It would include the cities of Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Iowa Park and Electra. If approved, all cities would help fund the $150K needed to keep the force running. Says Woody Gossom, Wichita County judge, "I just want two thank the commissioner court for looking into that and moving forward because I think if we don't do something we'll see the rise of meth labs in Wichita County." The Wichita Falls Police Department's Narcotics Unit would act as the county drug task force. If approved by all cities, two extra officers would be added to the unit. Officials say this is necessary because they have the proper training to deal with potentially dangerous drug situations.
