Leave our body hangups behind and learn to love ourselves. That's what Carlson Kreesley asked us to do today on Oprah. Easier said than done - especially if you're always on the go. Not enough time is my excuse for not exercising or eating healthy.
But I found out why both should be a part of everyday.
"It's a lifestyle, not a fad, not a diet. It's an eating pattern. It's how you eat. It's how you exercise. It's how you take care of yourself." Personal trainer, Aketa Thomas says it's about finding time in your schedule and learning to say no to things that can wait.
"It's like setting an appointment. If you know you have to go to the doctor you go, but with exercise you have to do the same thing." Thomas suggests working out 30 minutes a day-and for those who don't have a whole half an hour to give up.
"You can actually break up your exercise into three 10 minute increments. Everybody has 10 minutes! If you have time to watch the news you've got 10 minutes. You could be marching while your watching the news."
She says just getting up to change the channels instead of using the remote can shed up to 10 pounds a year! But it's more than just losing weight - the goal should be improved health. Thomas says experiment with different types of foods - like a granola bar instead of chips. "Try different things. Don't just do the same things you've always done because you'll get the same results you've always gotten," says Thomas.
Exercise and maintaining a healthy diet - it's preventative medicine and you have to make time for it.
"I tell clients I know what's waiting for me if I don't exercise and don't take care of myself. High blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, you name it. It's all waiting for me. But if can do something to prevent that from," says Thomas.
I hit the gym with Tthomas to learn a fun and easy work out routine to fit in my schedule and you can use it too. Some exercises to get you in shape and feeling good before summer.
