Fighting Staph Infections

News1 KAUZ

The Wichita Falls ISD is tackling a staph infection problem. There have been several cases reported at Rider High School since September. Health officials want you to be informed on preventing staph infections. This morning the Wichita County Health District met with the athletic trainers and nursing staffs of all Wichita Falls High Schools. The district credits the health department with helping treat and look for symptoms of staph infections. School officials will wash all practice and game uniforms to prevent the spread of the infections. They also have extra custodial staff to clean up gyms, locker rooms and weight rooms. Officials say two students and a coach from Rider High School's varsity football program were recently hospitalized with staph. All three high schools have reported minor infections that didn't require hospitalization. None are confirmed to be the deadly MRSA strain of the infection. The WFISD says good hygiene is the best defense against staph infection. We've provided a link to the district's website on our website.  On the left, click on "News", then "Links".
