Cold Case: The Murder of Julio Pomarez

KAUZ News

A Wichita Falls man is stabbed to death while leaving a popular bar, and his killer remains on the loose. In this week's Cold Case report we go back to the scene of the crime.

"September 6, 1987 at about 9:25 pm, the police department got a 911 call in reference to a stabbing." says Harold McClure, police officer.

When officers show up, they found 44-year-old Julio Pomarez in front of the 'Mi Officina' bar located on the 200th block of Scott Street. He had been stabbed in the torso.

As onlookers gathered,a Lifeline ambulance showed up, but Julio's injuries were too severe.

Just 15 minutes before, Julio was seen inside the bar he often visited and witnesses say he was just fine.

"Officers spoke to one of the employees at the bar and they had seen him at the bar probably five minutes before they came outside and saw he was stabbed." says McClure.

Problem is no one saw the suspect...

"Police spoke to several individuals at the scene people at the bar around the area and everybody claimed they didn't see anything."

This left police without a good description, or exact replay of what happened.

"He was walking around and an unknown subject came up, we don't know if there was a physical altercation that started, don't know if they were arguing..."

But they do know after he was stabbed. Julio managed to stumble away, and fell in front of the 200th block of Scott Street. The person responsible didn't stick around, which leaves most of the details that deadly night in the hands of those who where there.

"There were a lot of people out that it's possible someone saw something they were afraid to say something at the time, but now enough times has gone by and we are hoping they step forward and give us info that will solve this case." says McClure.

If you have any information you're urged to call the Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers at 322-9888. You never have to give your name and could help put Julio's killer behind bars.
