A move into a new home ends in tragedy for one Wichita Falls couple. Tonigh'ts Cold Case Report focuses on the murder of a 30 year old man, killed in front of his home. 

Faith Village is a well known Wichita Falls neighborhood.  Tonight, it's also the crime scene where Robert Earl Sanders was found shot to death. All by a suspect, who after 27 years is still getting away with murder.

Robert Earl Sanders,30, was murdered March 2, 1982.

Wichita Falls Police Officer Harold McClure said, "When they got there, they saw a subject in front of the address laying in a pool of blood. At that time, a female came running out saying her husband has been shot."

It was a Tuesday, and Robert had just gotten home for the night.

"A couple of buddies were giving him a ride home and dropped him off. He gets out of the vehicle and as he is exiting the vehicle and approaching the house, someone, we believe, was positioned under the carport at 2923 Featherston, and  fired a shot gun."

The other two shots fired that night, also hit a target.

"Striking the vehicle, Mr. Sanders was in, and breaking out a window and striking one of the occupants in the vehicle in the hand."

Officers said Robert's two friends left him there and drove themselves to the ER. They were questioned but leads ran dry. Police did find shell casings and other evidence under the carport, but the motive behind the killing is still unknown.

"We don't know if he was being targeted specifically with them being new to the home. I don't know if it was a mistaken identity. It could've been a number of different things."

Police say people who lived in Faith Villiage at that time could be reading this story now, and are asked to think back.

"We were hoping that someone who lived in the area during that time, might know something and might feel more comfortable coming to police with information."
