You've seen the lines of frantic parents waiting hours to get their kids the H1N1 vaccine. Now, a recent announcement has many Texans outraged. State health officials say highest-risk people will get the vaccination first, whether they're in jail or not, but the announcement is stirring up mixed feelings. "It's important. These individuals are going to be locked behind bars that they don't get everybody sick. Not only the other inmates, but the staff who work there," said one guard. "I pay for insurance. I pay premiums. I would have to pay a co-pay to have my daughter vaccinated, but yet my tax dollars are being deferred to something i don't really have much say in, obviously," said one Texas woman. The state said any inmate who gets a vaccine will have to wait too; they still haven't been able to get the vaccines for the inmates. Texas governor Rick Perry is also speaking out. He says law-abiding citizens should receive vaccines before prisoners and says inmates are not taking priority over the general public in getting vaccinated. Most ViewedMore Good Stuff |
