  You don't have to talk to Becky Felts too long to figure out that she is passionate about teaching and what her organization, The Oklahoma Education Agency, are working towards in the coming year.  

"There's good things happening in Oklahoma education." says Felts.

 

 President Felts says her theme moving into the coming school year is "help for the future of education in oklahoma." Nothing says more about looking to the future than a focus on the youngest people in education in the state, early childhood and kindergarten students.

 "...and Oklahoma is leading the nation in early childhood four year programs, kindergarten programs and  building an early foundation. And those are things that Oklahoma can certainly be proud of."

 Felts says Oklahoma is also known nationwide for the quality of teacher training programs. She says teachers that have schooled and trained in Oklahoma, then moved off to other parts of the United States, have stood out in other educational systems.

This year, Felts is also looking to churches in the state to partner with education. But she says the most important link between students and a good education, are the parents.

  "Parents are the most valuable in their child's education. And schools have to work closely with the parents. And helping parents know that they can, be involved in that level to help the children be successful at school."

 Felts says starting early and working hard to form good habits for young students will ultimately have an impact on graduation rates.
