The Texas Department of Public Safety would like to remind you to pick up your trash when you are done popping fireworks this Fourth of July holiday.

Officials say leaving firework remains on the side of the road is the same as throwing trash out the window. If you are caught littering you can be charged with a misdemeanor, which carries fines up to $5,000.

After every July 4th, TXDOT spends at least $5,000 in the Wichita Falls area alone cleaning up all the trash that is left behind.
