Experts say there's been a surge in the number of patients suffering from pollen problems over the past few weeks. Kiwi Lawson, a local resident said, "It makes you really sneezy and get headaches and stuff and it's just different than where I'm from. I've never seen these kinds of trees before so, it's like, my body's just not used to it." "The typical allergy patient, if they try to avoid exposure to pollens, that's gonna be their best case scenario. That means keep your windows shut. Although it may be tempting to open them up, let the actual fresh air into the home because it has been a little bit since we've been able to do that. That's not something I'd recommend."

Experts say the typical allergy symptoms are headaches, runny nose, itchy eyes, and breathing problems. But even with pollen just about everywhere, there are ways to help prevent allergy problems.

"Everybody knows the weather here in Texoma is pretty wild with some pretty big swings this time of year...but this past month we've had days where we had 90 degree readings in the afternoon and that is very unusual," said meteorologist Chip Maxham.

Assistant Professor Tammy Kurszewski of MSU Respiratory Care added "The warm temperatures have triggered a release of pollen. Basically, we've seen the trees spring to life. Especially when you start looking at the Elm and Cedar, those are big issues with allergy sufferers. That really triggers a big response in our asthmatic patients."
