KAUZ Signal on Fidelity Cable System of Lawton

For many years, cable systems have made local broadcast stations part of their cable lineup. KAUZ-TV is a regular network broadcast station based out of Wichita Falls, Texas and broadcasts our signal over the air free of charge. Cable systems, such as Fidelity Cable of Lawton, take in that signal and re-broadcast it to you via your cable connection. However, they are charging you, the subscriber, a monthly fee for a television channel that is free otherwise on the air. KAUZ-TV is asking Fidelity Cable to reimburse us on behalf of the retransmission of KAUZ-TV signals, which include local air channel 6, CBS network television, and the CW Texoma. KAUZ-TV is not asking for a large sum amount from Fidelity Cable, nor are we asking for you, the subscriber to pay extra. You, the subscriber, already pay for KAUZ-TV programming. KAUZ-TV CBS brings you shows such as: Wheel of Fortune, Oprah Winfrey, Jeopardy, and many network shows such as CSI, Without a Trace, NCIS, and many more. KAUZ-TV does not broadcast these programs for free. We have to pay for these programs, just as you pay bills monthly for your own utilities. We invite you to call us anytime with questions or comments at (940) 322-6957. We also encourage you to talk with Fidelity Cable Company at 580-353-2250 (your cable company of Lawton) and let them know you want to continue receiving your favorite programs on KAUZ-TV. Below are some frequently asked questions concerning this matter. WHY IS YOUR STATION NOT ON THE AIR? KAUZ is asking for compensation from cable operators to rebroadcast our signal. After negotiations, we have been unable to come to terms with Fidelity Cable of Lawton. Discussions are continuing, but if not met by January 1, 2009, we will ask them to take our signal off their system until we reach an agreement. Cable operators have historically refused to pay compensation to Network Affiliates, even though national ratings confirm that—each week—more than 90 of the top 100 programs are on NBC, CBS, ABC, or Fox. Nearly $3.00 of your cable or satellite bill goes to ESPN every month. We’re asking for a fraction of that to continue providing shows like CSI, NFL football, Cold Case, etc. KAUZ is getting compensation from other cable companies, and from satellite providers like Dish Network. WHAT CAN I DO?

If the station goes, well the ads go as does some revenue. KAUZ knows this and feels Fidelity will ante up. I have an antenna, but your signal is too degraded to come in clearly.
