Another devastating murder in 1980, is where we continue our Cold Case Series Tonight. A Wichita Falls man was found shot to death and his family is still longing for closure.

Herman Polk was found 28 years ago, off of River Road, the morning of April 26,1980. But his death was no accident, the 23 year old was shot multiple times then left for dead.

The last reports of Herman Polk being alive, go back to the night before at 7:30pm. Family told police nothing seemed out of the norm, but police say something has to explain why this happened. After being shot multiple times. it was two men driving by who noticed Herman on the side of the road. But when they went to check, they discovered he was dead.

Dwight Haywood grew up with Herman, and was also his cousin.

"We were about the same age, I knew him well he was a decent young man." said Haywood.

Haywood wasn't around the night Herman was killed but says the past 28 years have been hard on the family.

"When they are young like that you hate to hear it, and when they haven't brought the killer to justice that just makes it worse."

Herman was found laying face down, with his hands and arms around the top of his head, and blood on his hands.

Crime Scene tape went up near what was then the city's dump, In the 100 block of River Rd. where detectives confirmed Herman was shot to death.

"While they were out there, it so happened that a family member came up to one of the officers and was talking to them when he realized who it was the officers got a description of the victims vehicle." said WFPD Officer Harold McClure.

Shortly after talking to family police found Herman's car in the 400 block of Flood Street. The building is gone now but they say the car was found in the parking lot of TJ's Bar.

Police are still working to fill the 13 hour gap and bring closure to family.

"He could have gone on to do anything he wanted to do, and to have it cut short like this, it's un-acceptable." said Officer McClure.
