A suburban stretch of roadway has been the scene of a couple of bad accidents in wichita falls and that has business people in the area asking what can be done?

The signs say the speed limit is 45-miles an hour... But some out here claim cars run much higher than that. We're talking about a piece of burk road south bound, just before sheppard access. Sophea chung says the problems seem to be driver inattention.

 "...I guess people are not paying attention where they're going," said Chung. That wasn't the case when an eight year old girl was hit by a car. She ran out into oncoming traffic0 and was struck. But it could have been the very next day when two cars collided and an elderly man was seriously hurt in that accident.

 "...I think just when... like during busy hours people going and coming to work people are trying to get home and trying to get to work," said Chung.

Both Tx-Dot and the city of Wichita Falls say the speed limit was raised About a year ago.

Tx-Dot spokesperson Adele Lewis says that was done only after a traffic survey was conducted in the area. Then a complicated formula was applied to the data and that's how Tx-Dot came up with the increased speed limit.

Lewis says what it appears to come down to on this stretch of road is an enforcement issue. In other words... Law enforcement armed with a radar gun and a ticket book should visit the area to slow motorists down.
