A haunted house is bringing a community together. The Randlett Volunteer Fire Department kicked off this year's haunted house fundraiser with a special dedication.

Fire Chief Randy Green and his sister Teri Jane Hodges came up with the haunted house idea four years ago. Growing bigger and better each year. But this year holds special meaning for their family and the Randlett community...

"It's going to be a tough year this year... My sister passed away last year, earlier this year from cancer," Cheif Green said.

Randy's wife Denna says Teri Jane Hodges embraced the Randlett firemen. She loved the Halloween season and planning their haunted house event.

"This was her life, come January, February she was sitting in front of my husband going what ideas do you have?" Denna said.

But in October of last year, Teri Jane was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.

"Even though she was still going through all of her treatments she did everything she could to be here and be a part of it. She lost her fight in March so it's just very fitting we choose tonight to honor her with our haunted house," Denna said.

To do that, family and friends said a prayer and sent teri a message they know in their hearts she could hear.

"This one's for you!," the Randlett community yelled.

With the candles lining the front porch of the haunted house, The firemen got ready to scare their families during a practice run.

"This is the most fun ever. This is unbeleiveable. It's a lot of work- we've been working on this thing a while and it's tiring you can't imagine what it's like to scare somebody really," Cheif Green said.

Green says it takes anywhere from 40 to 60 people to put on the haunted house.

"It's just a true family effort and when I say that I mean the whole Randlett community... The firemen, there wives and families, it's a joint effort," Denna said.

Green says they had about 2,500 come through last year and he hopes for 5000 this year. All proceedes will go back to the Randlett Vounteer Fire Department to help pay bills, fuel, buy new equipment, and finish their new classroom and office addition.

The House of Carnage 11 will be open every Friday and Saturday in October and November 1. Starting at 7p.m. It's $10 per person and you get a free hamburger with admission. For more information call 580-281-3833.
