One thing most of Texoma can agree on is a dislike for weeds! It's the time of year when they sprout... and an overgrown yard is prompting residents in one Southwest Wichita Falls neighborhood to call You ask, we investigate.
In a neighborhood where everyone keeps a neatly mowed neatly manicured yard there is one address that is an eye sore. The home at this address has a front yard that is over grown with grass, weeds and is littered with trash. It turns out the home is vacant and has been for some time. In checking the property records online through the Wichita Appraisal District the home was repossessed months ago..
Now, the owner is listed as the Secretary of Veteran's Affairs in Houston. One neighbor told us they cut the grass last year, and they're not doing it again. This year they went to the city's Code Enforcement Department but it didn't appear they had gotten much action.
As of Thursday the yard was still unmowed. And the weeds, grass and shrubs are only getting taller. That can lead to a bug problem for the area.
Good news for folks in the Wind Chime subdivision. Code enforcement at the city says it started working this complaint back on June 19th. It was inspected and a notice sent to the "Secretary of Veterans Affairs" office in Houston. Ten days is up next week.
It will be re-inspected early in the week. Shortly there after, the yard will be mowed by the city and a lien placed on the property. If the yard grows up again it's already on the inspection list. Code enforcement will be keeping an eye on it and mowing as necessary.
If you've got a problem, give us a call at 687-U-ASK. That number again...687-8275.
