Some Northeast Wichita Falls residents are taking extra precautions after several attacks by vandals. There seems to be no apparent reason for these attacks and neighbors are ready to do something about it.
All of these attacks have been happening in a subdivision off Missile Road. One of the victims thinks the vandals hit vehicles randomly. Neighbors are left wondering why anyone would commit such a crime.
Roberto Ferrer had a unique awakening Thursday morning. Police informed him two of his tires had been slashed.
"I'm really upset because I travel a lot and I always leave the cars in my driveway. Now, I can't trust. I don't know what to do," Ferrer said.
Roberto's car is one of thirty in the area vandalized. Most vehicles had at least two tires punctured. It adds up to more than seven-thousand dollars in damages.
"I didn't do nothing to anybody so I don't know why they'd do that. I guess they have nothing to do," he said.
Some victims were lucky, their tires could be fixed. But not Roberto. His new tires totalled to almost two hundred dollars.
"I would say to the people who did this that they should go and do it at their own cars, not somebody else's. It costs money and is an inconvenience," he said.
Wichita Falls police say since the incident, they've received multiple calls about starting up a neighborhood watch program.
"It brings the neighborhood together. People get to know their children; what cars are supposed to be in the neighborhood," WFPD Crime Prevention Officer Steve Carroll said.
Roberto says he was part of a crime prevention group they used to have in the area. And would be involved if they form another one.
"There's been vandals around. This neighborhood was real quiet and i don't now what happened to it." If you're interested in forming a neighborhood watch program you can contact officers Steve Carroll or Mike Phillips at 940-720-5007.
The Wichita Falls Police Department needs your help. They're still looking for the vandals or any witnesses to this crime. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at 322-9888. You can remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward.
