HUGO, Okla. (AP) - Board members of a southern Oklahoma nonprofit organization are buying out the contract of the group's executive director who is a former state lawmaker now charged with taking bribes. The board of the Little Dixie Community Action Agency voted Tuesday to buy out the contract of former state Representative Randall Erwin. The agency relies on federal grants for its annual budget and Hugo City Manager David Rawls says federal officials indicated some concern after Erwin was indicted. Little Dixie provides grants for programs such as housing, public transit and Head Start. A federal indictment issued May 1st accuses Erwin of earmarking state money for businesses owned by Steve Phipps and taking an undisclosed amount in kickbacks from Phipps.
