Texas Attorney General Visits Wichita Falls

Dan Garcia

Texas Attorney General, and Wichita Falls native, Greg Abbot spoke at the Crime Stoppers event. He then held a news conference about school safety.

"School is a place for learning not fear. Texas children deserve to go to a school with a sense of security but too often violence shatters the innocence of the classroom," said Attorney General Abbot.

Abbot says a recent report shows 10% of high school students are threatened or injured with a weapon on campus.

That's one reason why the state is requiring all schools to come up with a safety plan. Abbott says all Texas school districts must submit campus security audits to the Texas School Safety Center by August 31st. Then conduct one every three years. Officials say the audits will help prevent school violence and tragedies like the massacre at Columbine.
