Outraged Over Obama: Senator Wears USMC Shirt

As candidates make campaign stops ahead of tomorrow's primaries, some veterans are speaking out against Senator Barack Obama. They're not upset about something he said on the campaign trail... it's about what he wore.

They're angry because he wore a United State's Marine Corps shirt during a campaign stop.

"He's not a very strong candidate as far as the military goes and he's going to do everything he can to get the extra votes," A.J. Hixenbaugh said.

He was seen April 26th, wearing a grey USMC shirt playing basketball in Indiana.

"That shirt says I am a Marine. I'm a retired Marine or I'm an honorably discharged Marine," Hixenbaugh said.

He said ultimately what you wear does fall under the First Amendment---

"However people like me and other Marines earn the right to wear that," Hixenbaugh said.

Another local woman agrees and said her son was in the service and that shirt should be reserved for people in the service and not for people that were never enlisted.

Hixenbaugh feels the presidential hopeful wearing the shirt was definitely a campaign photo op.

Channel Six News received many emails feeling the same way. Some wrote it doesn't matter if it's an unofficial shirt, it still represents the organization... and "no one is just allowed to use MD or Dr. with their name."

The Marine Corp name should be protected in that same manner.

Still some, don't understand what's making people so upset and feel it's just a shirt.

Another local woman who said she doesn't support Senator Obama said, "I think it's just being blown out of proportion because he's in the forefront."

The Associated Press reported the USMC T-shirt Obama was wearing, was a gift given to him by one of his security agents.

KAUZ Channel 6 News contacted Obama's Campaign headquarters. On Friday we were able to talk to one person who promised to get back to us today... however today when we called, all we got was an answering machine, where we left our message again.

He can wear the shirt- it does not make a man, but he is not president material - he is arrogant and we need someone else.

Obama can wear my old medals, old sweatshirt and whatever he wishes. He's a brilliant fellow and the one to lead the United States. I'm a white Viet Nam infantry veteran.

If Obama had not worn the USMC shirt given to him as a present, these same people would say that proves he is unpatriotic. I know the Marines are a brave, and serving in the Marines is dangerous. No one is trying to take that away from anyone. It is a sign of solidarity. And Barack Obama is not a Muslim. And Muslims are members of a mostly peaceful religion. Not all interested in "bringing down America."

For goodness sake, it's a shirt that was a gift. I agree, it's just another scam of people clutching at straws to bring him down. Honestly, what he stands for and the issues he will address as president will be more important than his shirt. Obama is a good man and, if America has any sense, he will be president.

you all is some very sick people. you need to be glad that somebody is wearing that shirt. it doesn't matter who wear what. i am an army man i served 22yrs and i am glad to see someone wearing aarmy shirt. it let's me know that they care enough to wear it. on the other hand, they could burn it up or throw it in the garbage. you all worry about some of the stupidest things. a shirt ha, ha, ha crazy folks.

We need to not be so picky about things like a shirt. You are making the markings of a shirt MEAN something. It does not mean anything. We need to worry about clean air, clean water, real food and our freedom. Barack will address these issues. Without those, nothing else matters.

What's is so wrong with the simple fact that someone wear a marine t-shirt? People, please don't be so "bitter" about such a so unsignificant thing. I know that it is a very hard time in US economy. People are having difficulty to put food on the table, but don't try to put the blame on somebody else. You should put the blame on the incompetent people that are running this country. Thanks!

You would complaint if he had worn an Army shirt. That's what wrong with this country now, everything got to be to one's own liking or it's wrong. I bet most discharged vets don't wear them. I'm out and about in a military town and only see young enlisted wearing them. Get over it, don't make ridiculos gripes. If you don't want to vote for him don't. Yours is only one vote.

At times people are worked up and don't want Obama to win they can make a mountain out of a mole for anything. Why should he not put it on?. It is a gift for christ sake. Don't we have other things to worry about the war in Iraq, the economy and the famine that is going in the world. People let us get a life and leave him alone and think of how to survive in day to day basis. Loosing job, homes, bad economy is a big problem. wearing a shirt giving as a present more a bigger problem?

obama is a muslim and shouldn't be allowed to wear the shirt of any service of the USA. I can't believe the American people would even think about voting for someone who could bring down the USA from within or think all Americans are infidels.

Shame on pacist Americans including Clintons who do anything to destroy hope Barack Obama brought to people.

You need to be more concern with the important issues we face and besides someone gave it to him. Why are people so negative. Are you that unhappy with your life? He has my vote.

My God it was a present, I would proudly wear that Tshirt if given to me by a marine. he dosnt call himself a marine he is just wearing that TS any one could wear a TS with "Harvard University" on it or with "Philadelphia Eagles" that dosnt make him a Dr. from Harvard or a Celebrity of the Eagles that just shows the commitment to wards that institution. I didnt hear any Marine say such things. I think everybody would be proud if a United States Senator would wear a TS of his/her institution.

Barack Obama is very strong "as far as the military goes." Not only have more members of the US Military donated to his campaign than to any other, Obama has also been outspoken on the concerns of our veterans, and on the refocusing of our country's military effort in Afghanistan - the front line of the War on Terror. If a Secret Service agent wants to give his USMC T-shirt to Barack Obama, that's perfectly OK with me!

Monday, May 5 at 10:07 PM Martin wrote ...

People are coming with all sorts of excuses and reasons to stop Obama from becoming President. That shirt was given as a present and as a gift people cherish to do anything they want. Lets support Barack to be the best President of US.
