Ken comes to Texoma from Jackson, Mississippi, where he was a meteorologist for 16 WAPT for 9 years. While here, he made a name for himself the "go to guy" for breaking weather events. No event was bigger than when Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Mississippi gulf coast and flooded the city of New Orleans in August of 2005. He, along with the WAPT news team, provided non-stop coverage of the storm as it tore across the state and the aftermath that followed.
Hurricanes aren't Ken's only specialty. Covering tornadoes is what he does best. In November of 2001, a strong f4 tornado, with winds of more than 150 miles per hour, moved across some heavily populated subdivision's of Madison county, which is on the northwest side of Jackson. The tornado completely destroyed homes and businesses. The storm struck in the middle of the night over the weekend. Ken was the only meteorologist on air tracking the storm from the time it formed, until it finally moved out. Unfortunately, two people died, but numerous others credited Ken's information for saving their lives.
Ken's experience with severe weather, along with a unique way of giving day to day weather forecasts, has earned him the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal Of Approval by the American Meteorological Society.
Ken got his degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State University in May of 2000.
He married his college girl friend Mistie a few years later. They now have 3 children Helicity, Haze, and Cape. If you think these names sound unique, that's because, they are. They are all named after weather terms. Helicity, is the wind in the atmosphere that helps create tornadoes. Haze, is what kind of looks like fog in the middle of the day when the sun is bright in the sky. Cape is an acronym. It stand for CONVECTIVE AVAILABLE POTENTIAL ENERGY. When the CAPE is high, the atmosphere is unstable and it provides the fuel needed for thunderstorm growth.
When not working, he spends most of his time with his family. He also enjoys working out, anything outdoors, going to church, and is an avid football fan, especially SEC& Big 12 football and loves the New Orleans Saints.
