Cold Case Introduction

News1 KAUZ

Cold case is the one of the hottest shows on CBS, where detectives solve murder cases that have remained a mystery for decades.

Wichita Falls Detectives are trying to do the same. There are 39 unsolved homicides dating back to 1980. KAUZ has teamed up with the Wichita Falls Police Department to try and help solve these crimes. It's a new series looking at the past from a different angle.

The WFPD has files full of cold cases leading detectives back to the scene of the crime. Volunteers are re-enacting the murders, all in hopes of making you remember.

"Maybe we didn't get to talk to them before now. If they see this maybe it will jog their memory and they will come forward to police and say hey I don't know if this means anything but this is what I know. And that may be that one piece we are looking for." said WFPD Officer Harold McClure.

Sergeant William Henning says several factors play into why arrests were never made, but a lot of them have to do with lack of cooperation with witnesses. The ones the cold cases most affect though, are the families.

"They call and want to know what's happening with the case and rightfully so, I mean my heart goes out to the families because they're victims as well."

But officers hope a fresh approach to old crime, will finally bring years of awaited closure.

Next Friday we go back 28 years when Florence Arteberry was murdered. On January 13, 1980, police say she was found on Flood Street near the corner of Washington School. Watch our Cold Case special next Friday for a full re-enactment and how you can help.

Our cold case specials will air on Friday nights. To give viewers a second chance to help solve a homicide, the reports will also air at 10:00p.m. on Sundays.

I had an uncle, Marshall Ray Meazel who was a Texas Peace officer gunned downed in the mid to late 1980 at his home by a single gunshot wound to the face. All indications at the time were that a motorcycle gang committed this henous crime. I have not hear anything about this case in several decades and would like to know if this is one of the cases the the Wichita Falls Detectives are looking into. Lexington, KY
