Some Texoma Kids are finished with elementary, but now its time to start back at the bottom in junior high. And the new experience is enough to give any preteen jitters.

Known as the transition years, junior high is truly all about change, and growing up. In elementary kids stay in the same class most of the day but not so in junior high.

"You're going to be changing class to class teacher to teacher and you will have eight instead of two or three." said Kirby Jr. High Principal Dee Palmore.

Lockers, and remembering the combinations to get them open can also be scary.

"Because they've never opened a combination lock before. So that's very challenging sometimes to get it right but after a little while they do."

Organization is key! One good way is keeping up with an assignment book you can buy at most stores, however many junior highs give them to students.

And a way to improve grades and make friends is to get involved in school activities. But parents even though your child is becoming more independent, you need to get involved too.

To help give parents and students a chance to see the school, Kirby Junior High is holding an orientation at 7pm. Then next Wednesday, parents can stop by the school at 1715 Loop 11, 8-5 pm to pick up their child's schedule.

Take your children too, so they can find their classrooms and lockers.
