When it comes to giving and volunteering, adults are usually at the head of the pack. But Texoma kids are also making a difference.

When it comes to volunteering with kids, fun is usually involved and so is a friendly competition.

 First Baptist Pastor Doctor Bob McCartney and two other ministers on staff got pies in their faces Friday, after Vacation Bible School Kids went above and beyond for the community

 "A lot of times we think that adults are the only ones who can organize or put together a program like this, but when you motivate kids to care about other kids it's amazing what they can do together." said Pastor Dr. Bob McCartney.

The goal was to collect 500 pounds of food for the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, but these kids raised more than 1700 pounds of rice and beans.

Teens at the East Branch YMCA are also giving up their summer to volunteer.

"It's just a blessing to see them step up and start teaching these kids how to read and write." YMCA Vice President Ronnie Williams.

Teenager Carlette Banks helps by cleaning up the YMCA and also works with younger kids. She says it's her way to make a difference in their lives.

 "I think some of us have grown a little cynical about the younger generation but these kids prove that they really care about one another and other people." said Dr. McCartney.
