News1 KAUZ

All we've been hearing lately is the economy is failing and businesses are falling under. But one way to keep small business alive in North Texas is by networking. That's exactly what hundreds of owners are doing tonight at the Midwestern State, Dillard Of College of Business Administration.  All for BCI Business  "After Hours."

The event allows owners to get together monthly.  Tonight's event is being hosted by the Small Business Development Center.  Who's also celebrating it's 20th year of service. The SBDC is defiantly one of North Texas' hidden treasures, making a major impact on our local economy.

Driving down Kemp it's not hard to spot Mystic Floral. Ann Marie Payne started the business two years ago and says the SBDC, helped her get organized!

SBDC Director Vanda Wright says the center is all about consulting.

It not only helps new and developing business but also existing ones.

"There's been a lot of tough decisions I've had to make in the last couple of years and without them I don't think I could've made. I would've really just questioned my judgment. They've given me confidence. And when you get discouraged the biggest thing is they keep you going." said Ann Marie Payne.

The SBDC offers workshops, training and even has resources many business dream of.

And the impact is huge!

The center has more than 8,000 clients, assisted in nearly 1,000 openings and created close to 3,000 jobs in the surrounding area!

SBDC also works closely with MSU programs by helping upper level students get internships at local businesses. Wright says the result is a win win for both!

The Small Business Development Center serves 13 North Texas Counties, and the services are FREE. For more information call 397-4373.
