A new CBS show isn't on the air yet but it's already stirring up talk and controversy.
Swingtown is set to kick off Thursday June 5th. It's set in the 70's and focuses on the lifestyle of swingers. Because of content Channel News is questioning whether to air the show.
Here at Channel Six our purpose is to serve the public, and the community's interest. Every community has different values. Some may be OK with airing Swingtown while others may not! That's why we feel it's important to hear from Texoma residents.
You can watch a preview of the show here on our website or at cbs.com.
After some community leaders saw the preview, they felt the show should stay off KAUZ airwaves.
"It's certainly not a show I would encourage people to watch. Certainly back in the 70's it was a big deal but it's just not something that's a main stream America kind of thing. It is also not something we want to promote in our community and promote to our children." said Wichita Falls Mayor Lanham Lyne.
NASCA International is an organization for those in the swinger lifestyle community. We spoke with the Founder, Dr. Robert McGinley who feels the lifestyle is misunderstood by many.
"This is a country of many different ways of thinking and ways of living one's lifestyle. I think it benefits everyone to sit back and let your prejudice sit to one side and try to get an idea of what other people think. Like it or not however the lifestyle or swinging if you will is perhaps one of the most rapidly growing social recreations for couples today."
Even so this is the type of show many are shocked to see come to Texoma.
"Obviously CBS is in the business of making money and is gaining advertisement so they must think most of America wants to see this type of show which is very unfortunate. This is just not a logical way to operate a family that's why God simply said one man and one woman." said Church of The Good Shepherd Father Scott Wooten.
The leaders also say they are against even moving the show to a later time slot. They say moving it doesn't help the mainstream issue that the show promotes extreme lack of morals and drug use.
KAUZ General Manager Mike DeLier says we have requested a full episode of Swingtown to review the show however we were not able to obtain a copy through CBS. So at this time Channel Six News plans on airing the first episode, next Thursday at 9pm in it's entirety. From there we want your input on whether the show should remain on the air or be moved to another time slot. To voice your opinion you can e-mail: comments@kauz.com

We as parents can certainly understand the idea of television and its influences on youth, however we do not believe freedoms of entertainment should be constrained due to fear. The failure point lies not in the television show, but in the parenting or lack there of. Furthermore, this show conforms to all the regulations for network broadcasting, and so the only real "threat" here is that the reality of a former generation may be realized in color. Do not be so simple minded - AIR THE SHOW!
