United Way funding for several North Texas organizations is cut after the United Way announced earlier this year it's chaning the way money is handed out.

And this week, many of the agencies formerly funded by the United Way learned they were no longer getting money. In today's You Ask, We Investigate... Dan Garcia explains how agencies are handling the change.

Of the two agencies I talked with today, one lost $25, 000 in funding and the other lost $92,000.

It was certainly a shock to both... but they have vowed to continue their programs and hopefully come up with the lost funding from other sources.

The North West Council of the Boy Scouts learned Tuesday, its funding had been cut. That's also the day Campfire learned its support from the United Way was gone from the 2008-09 budget. Bettye Ricks says she was disheartened to learn the why.

"...Because we do not meet with the children every day of the week. Five days a week that we did not get the funding," said Ricks.

That's also the reason given to the Scout Council.

"...I don't recall seeing that in the proposal in the criteria anywhere. It did say that it was important that successful proposals would be those that meet with the kids an extended period of time -- that being nine months or more and we thought great -- Boy Scouts... We meet year round," said Wilemon.

Now both agencies and several others, say they will have to go elsewhere to find the money to operate. The Scouts and Campfire say they are not going to alter what they do, because both say they have good well rounded programs for youth in our area. Programs both agencies say contribute to making the kids they serve well rounded adults.

As to how they are going to raise that money... "We are going to have to look at things very hard and long and decide what we should do," said Ricks.

As for the Scouts they are making a move to begin replacing funds much quicker.
