If you are counting on a check from the government by way of the economic stimulus package, you will have to file an income tax return. And for those folks who haven't been filing a return for some time, there is still help.

The main requirement to get an economic stimulus rebate, is you must file a 2007 Tax Return. But there are some folks who don't normally file. Mainly the disabled and senior citizens.

"What people need to know is if they don't normally have to file their taxes, maybe they're on social security, they need to go ahead and do that. Because if they don't file their taxes, they won't receive a rebate," said Jones.

And that's what the United Way is hoping to do. They want to help those people file who haven't in some time...and do so for free. They have set aside april 5th to help fill out returns. But there is another need the united way is looking to fill for that day. The agency needs volunteers. "The people that will be preparing the returns for these people don't have to be tax certified. We're looking for volunteers for a training session on Friday," said Winfrey.

One requirement to get a rebate check, includes making at least $3,000 a year. And again, the United Way says they are targeting people on Social Security and the disabled. They say the whole process should only take about 15 minutes.

The best way to get all your questions answered is to call the 211 information line. The operators can answer questions that include what paperwork you need in order to file a return. Most of all, they can tell you if you qualify for free assistance.

If you've got a question for me, call 687-UASK. That number again, 687-8275.

I just e-filed a tax extension at www.filelater.com. Does anyone know if that will trigger my rebate check? Or, if I have to wait until I file my return?
