When you accidentally cut someone off on the freeway, you don't expect a hostile confrontation. But that's exactly what happened to a Wichita Falls woman and the man confronting her isn't who you'd expect.
Melissa Brinson says she was headed west on Kell Freeway when all of a sudden her daughter began yelling there was a man following them. She proceeded to head to a medical facility at Barnett and Kell, and the man, in a white SUV pulled in behind her. "He said I cut him off and I could have caused an accident. Like I say, I I never saw him.."
She says the man continued to yell at her and even flashed a badge. It had trooper on it and a star in the middle. Melissa says he took her license and wouldn't let her go. "When I asked him for my driver's license back, he said I have a marked car coming and You're not moving," said Brinson. Finally after about ten minutes of arguing back and forth, the confrontation ended like it started... quickly.
"When he finally calmed down he told me if I promised to be more careful, he would let me go," said Brinson. Melissa continued to press about the marked car, the plain clothed trooper told her not to worry about it and sent her on her way. None the less, the ordeal left brinson with a weary feeling.
You Ask, We Investigate spoke with trooper Tony Fulton with the Department of Public Safety. He says troopers do not typically stop people when they are in plain clothes. Trooper Fulton says he will do some checking into this incident. This story is a good reminder to all drivers to pay close attention when roads are narrowing in a heavy construction area.
