Russia's invasion into Georgia has made headlines around the world.
Comments the two presidential hopefuls made on the matter has KAUZ General Manager Mike DeLier drawing some conclusions about leadership in this week's editorial.
The war between Russia and Georgia elicited interesting reactions from our presidential candidates. Senator John McCain called for an immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from our ally Georgia. Senator Barack Obama's initial response was for each side to exercise restraint.Very telling.
On the one hand, we have an experienced United States Senator with foreign policy experience delivering a directive towards Russia that was good for the Georgians, the United States and the world. Senator Obama's response, one that he has since changed to conform more to McCain's and the official position of the United States government, shows his inexperience in foreign affairs.
Does asking for restraint equate to the old policies of appeasement at any costs -- and do these costs continue in the form of terrorist threats and renewed aggressive behavior by Russia on the world stage? Vladimir Putin is obviously rebuilding the military might of Russia and will he next target the Crimea or the Ukraine?
Iran is building nuclear weapons with Russian support. Another explosive situation? You will have to decide by election day -- but we urge you to stay informed. Do not be seduced by political rhetoric or partisan politics. The world is a very dangerous place right now -- we can't afford to make mistakes.
