KAUZ General Manager Mike DeLier is unhappy with the response. Or lack there of from Texas and Oklahoma congressmen. That's the topic of his weekly editorial.
Over the past two weeks we have aired several stories, reports even editorialized two weeks ago concerning the high cost of drugs to our senior citizens and the unfair way in which prices continue to rise and are manipulated by pharmaceutical companies and the insurance companies who administer the programs.
And it is unfair, it's unjust and it's costing our senior citizens a certain quality of life just to make big business big money. Congress has allowed this, even encouraged it -- certainly proposing and passing the current Medicare Part D Plan.
Just last week, Rick Wardell, the owner, operator of City Pharmacy in Wichita Falls said, and i quote, "To my knowledge, they (congress) allowed the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies to write the program and you can tell its to their benefit and not necessarily the patients." This is absurd! whose interests are our legislators representing -- the people, those who elected them -- or the lobbyists and the businesses they represent?
You know what else -- we called and asked questions of our Texas and Oklahoma Washington delegations. To date, we have heard from Congressmen Mac Thornberry from Texas and Tom Cole from Oklahoma. And Senator Jim Inhofe from Oklahoma. That's it. And their answers were not much more than stock answers, about what you would expect.
Could it be that we have opened up a can of worms and our representatives in Washington, D.C. are distancing themselves from this problem and it is a huge problem. It looks so. We are going to stay on this story and report back to you. Keep watching KAUZ for your updates!
